On Monday, 16th May, we held our first of a new style of parish meetings, to which everyone was invited. Thanks to Karen, Lesley Anne and Glenn for organising and facilitating the meeting, also to everyone who came along and participated. The points raised by individuals were written on Post-it notes, all of which have been recorded, and can be read here.

After the summer we hope to have a children's liturgy during the 9.45am mass on Sundays. But before them we will reintroduce the children's liturgy on Sunday 12th and 19th June and warmly invite any of the children to take part.

On Monday, 16th May, we will hold our first of a new style of parish meetings, to which everyone is invited. The meeting begins with a period of prayer in the church, which will be open from 7pm, followed by tea, coffee and discussion in the hall from 7.30pm. I would encourage anyone wanting to come to the meeting to do so, but to spend at least some time in prayer in the church before the discussions begin. The material for this meeting has been provided by the Diocesan Synod Team and will form part of round two of the ongoing synod process. At the heart of this are three questions: What we already have. What we need to develop. What we are lacking.

After Mass on Thursday morning there will be an opportunity for quiet prayer before the Blessed Sacrament. Depending on the level of suppor, it is hoped that this can be done each week.

In place of a pastoral council we are going to try having quarterly parish meetings to which everyone is invited. The pattern will be a time of quite prayer in the church, followed by tea and coffee in the hall, during which everyone will be able to hold discussions in small groups, after which each group will feed back the outcome of their discussions to the entire group, a record of which will be kept. The first of these meetings will be held on Monday 16th May. The church will be open from 7pm for people to gather for a time of quiet prayer and I would ask that if you are coming to the meeting, which starts at 7.30pm in the hall, you spend at least ten minutes in the church in prayer first. Everyone is welcome, and the discussion at this first meeting will focus on the feedback we receive from the Diocesan Synod Group, which will be available a week or so before the meeting.

Over the past couple of years here have been long spells when there was no one around to take a bulletin. Even when people started returning to the church in number, there was so little happening that bulletins were not needed. But now that things are settling into a new normal, groups are beginning to meet and we are hoping to begin organising social events in the parish perhaps this is now time to reintroduce some kind of bulletin? To start with at least it will be monthly and since all the information in it is also available on the parish WebSite, and in the interest in saving waste, costs and the planet, I would ask that you only take one if you need one, or for those who have difficulty getting to church and are without access to the internet. This is just a trial, please give it a few months then let me know what you think.

St Ninian’s Primary and Early Years Centre will be moving location to a shared campus with Glenburn on Sherwood Road. While we are excited about this and will remain St Ninian’s primary, it is definitely the end of an era. To mark the closing of our current school building we are inviting staff, pupils and parents (past and present)- indeed anyone with fond memories of our school to our celebration event.
It will be held on the 14th June at 6:30pm. The school community looks forward to welcoming you all for a trip down memory lane!

Over the next couple of weeks we are hoping to produce a booklet listing all the groups that are active in the parish, along with a brief description of these groups and who you can contact for more information. There are a small number of groups that haven’t started yet, with envelopes for these groups pinned to the notice board. It would be a shame if they were missed out of the booklet, pr worse, didn’t start at all. If you are interested in any of these groups please take the envelope, you aren’t committing yourself to running the group but are invited to arrange the first meeting only. If anyone belongs to a group and wants it included in the booklet please give me the details as soon as possible.

Tea and Coffee will once again be available in the church hall after the Sunday morning mass for those wishing to catch up with friends
.
Ever wonder what happens in the parish? Wanted to know how to get involved? Have you got an idea for something you think we should be offering to people? Then come along to the hall after mass on Sunday 27th February and find out.
Just about everything came to a stop two years ago with the outbreak of Covid, but now we would like to get things going again, whether you are new to the parish or have lived here all your life, whether you are looking for something spiritual or just social, come along and find out what might be happening.

What's Happening in St Ann's and St Quivox?
Although we had originally intended to invite parishioners and others to meet in the hall and respond personally to the ten questions asked over the past few weeks, rising levels of Covid have made us cautious of arranging public meetings whenever they can be avoided. Instead we would ask every parishioner, whether they attend church or not, and anyone else interested in participating in this dialogue to complete and return one of the questionnaires the Synod Team have made available.
The responses to this first phase will help identify the topics that appear to be most important and will shape fututre questions that we will be asked in a few weeks. It is important therefore that as wide a variety of opinions are recieved, not just one per family but from every individual who wishes to have their voice heard.
SYNOD ON SYNODALITY:
The diocesan team would like to thank all the people who have already responded to the ten themes which have been published over the past couple of months. Omicron unfortunately postponed the first wave of synod encounters in parishes, however these are now starting to be rescheduled and we look forward to receiving the responses. In the meantime, there are two options to participate in the Synod. If you would like to attend an online encounter, please email synod@gallowaydiocese.org.uk and indicate what days and times are suitable for you. There is also an online questionnaire which can be completed either by individuals or small groups, e.g. family members. It is available for download here or by visiting gallowaydiocese.org.uk/synod. The questionnaires are also avaolable to be collected from the parish and can be returned to the parish.
